The Model CW-10 is a semi-automatic contact welder which permits one operator
to produce up to 1,200 movable contact arms per hour. The operator positions
the contact arm in a custom fixture and initiates the automatic sequence with a
two-hand, anti-tie-down safety control. The contact is automatically positioned
and welded.
This machine can be ordered as either a tape contact welder or button contact
welder, depending on the feed module specified:
Tape Feed Module
automatically advances contact tape from a coil, cuts a contact segment to size
and positions it on the arm for welding.
Typical contact tape cross-sections. Most tapes are composed of two or three
metals or alloys permanently clad together. Only the top layer is precious
metal. Base layer is patterned to facilitate welding. A wide variety of designs
are available.
Button Feed Module
is a vibratory bowl feeder combined with an escapement mechanism unit to
position the contact arm.
Button contacts are available in almost any size, combination of metal and base
configuration. Buttons may be plated with braze metal or solder for reflow
brazing or soldering.
This machine is very efficient for short production runs with production rates
approximately triple for those manual operations.
Electrical Contacts
All Welding & Automation, Inc. contact assembly and welding systems can be
equipped to automatically handle either button contacts or contact tape. Button
contacts are automatically fed from a vibratory bowl feeder and positioned on
the contact arm by a pick-and-place device. Contact tape is a continuous strip
of contact metal supplied in coils. Tape is fed from the coil and contact
segments are automatically cut to size, positioned on the arm, welded in place
and coined to precise shape and thickness. Welding & Automation, Inc. also
provides machines that will blank and coin button contacts from continuous
strips of contact tape at very high speeds.
Contact tape is often a more economical approach that preformed contacts.
Material costs are often lower and, with the right equipment, tape handling is
faster and easier than feeding and positioning individual contacts.
The Welding & Automation, Inc. Customer Service Welding Laboratory is
experienced in evaluating both contact tapes and button contacts and can
recommend the best selection for any specific application.
